Contrast Ultrasound for No-reflow: A New Therapy?

John Pacella, MD,  presented “Contrast Ultrasound for No-reflow:  A New Therapy?”  at the European Symposium on Ultrasound.  He discussed  a sonothrombolytic approach using ultrasound-induced microbubble cavitation, which was developed to treat the microvascular no-reflow that often complicates acute reperfusion therapy for myocardial infarction.

This work, which aligns Dr. Pacella’s NIH-funded research focus on the microcirculation with his clinical focus on interventional cardiology and ischemic heart disease, was awarded the Young Investigator Award in the Clinical/Translational category.  This was Dr. Pacella’s second young investigator award at an international scientific conference.
