Surgical oncologists at UPMC CancerCenter are working towards minimizing the impacts of surgery when providing treatment to patients with regionally confined metastatic cancers that are beyond surgical resection.

Using regional perfusion techniques, minimally invasive surgery, and complex robotic surgery, chemotherapy can be delivered directly to the organ of interests.

The surgical oncology department also offers fellowships and includes the integrated translational research program, where basic labs develop therapies to be applied to the clinic.

Watch David Bartlett, MD, vice chairman for surgical oncology services at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, discuss these techniques, as well as the surgical oncology fellowship program.
